UK's Top Navigation Apps on iOS in Q1 2024: A Sensor Tower Report

As the first quarter of 2024 comes to a close, Sensor Tower provides an insightful look into the performance of the top five navigation and maps applications on the iOS platform in the United Kingdom.

Google Maps remains a strong contender in the navigation category, with downloads starting at around 75K in the first week of January and peaking at nearly 97K in mid-February. Weekly active users showed a consistent trend, maintaining figures above 9M throughout the quarter.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic saw its downloads fluctuate, beginning at approximately 33K and reaching a high of 40K in the third week of February. The weekly active users for Waze increased steadily, starting at around 2.4M and climbing to nearly 2.7M by the end of March.

Another Google product, Google Earth, displayed a more modest performance with its downloads hovering in the 18K to 20K range throughout the quarter. The active user base showed a slight uptick, ending the quarter with 158K active users from a starting point of 135K.

The UK-based what3words: Navigation & Maps presented a relatively stable trend in downloads, with numbers ranging from 16K to 19K. The weekly active user count for what3words saw a slight decline, starting at around 88K and dipping to approximately 83K by the end of Q1.

Lastly, Citymapper: All Live Transit, also hailing from the UK, showed a consistent download pattern with figures around 11K to 13K. The app's revenue experienced some fluctuations, peaking at $2.8K in early March, while the weekly active users showed a gradual increase from 277K to 290K before dipping to 281K in the final week of the quarter.
